How We Met

He said I’d be his wife. Turns out, he was right.

We formally met in February 2024 at the airport when Anthuan arrived from Uruguay. Even though we hadn’t really known each other before, there was instant chemistry. That first moment was simple—a hello, a glance—but something about it felt different. We were both drawn to each other right away. At the end of March, Anthuan made his move and asked me on a date. I said no—or rather, I gently friend-zoned him. But instead of giving up, he leaned in. He found every opportunity to spend time with my family. It wasn’t forced or strategic—he genuinely wanted to be part of our lives. Funny enough, Anthuan is actually my brother’s godson, so there was already a unique connection between him and my family. And he was bold about his intentions. He told my family, without hesitation, “One day, Yessica will be my wife.” They laughed—but deep down, they believed him. Maybe even before I did. Over the next few months, our bond grew. We spent time together in family settings—laughing, sharing stories, and building something that didn’t quite have a name yet. That summer, we made some of our favorite memories at the lake, playing sports, soaking up the sun, and growing a deep, easy friendship that slowly turned into something more. My family saw it happening and gently encouraged it. They rooted for us from the sidelines, quietly (and not-so-quietly) nudging us toward each other. Then, on July 5, I finally said yes to that first date. It was pouring rain, and Anthuan showed up at my door holding an umbrella, completely drenched but still smiling. That night, we watched A Quiet Place: Part II—but honestly, the movie wasn’t the most memorable part. It was the moment everything changed. From that rainy night on, we weren’t just friends—we were something more. And now, we’re building a life together, full of the same love, persistence, and belief that started it all.
