It started at a Boston bar in the North End called Pink Flamingo. That night, Wes and Joey hit it off right away. Wes was convinced Joey’s name had to be a nickname until she showed him her ID. Later that same night, Joey surprised herself by trusting a total stranger to watch her drink, resting safely inside a blow-up flamingo koozie. As the night wrapped up, Wes gave Joey a chandelier crystal stolen from the ceiling—questionable ownership, solid gesture. From there, it was adventure after adventure. Within a month, Wes asked Joey to be his girlfriend, and since then their journey has taken them all over. From family visits in Stamford and Duxbury, to the desert skies of Arizona, to celebrating Joey’s 30th in London. But no matter where they go, life together has felt like the easiest, most joyful love. Today, they’ve built a home together in the South End, where Joey is delighted she is trading her Italian last name for an even more Italian last name.
