How We Met

Christian Mingle IRL

So we didn't actually meet on the Christian Mingle site, we just actually christian mingled at church. In 2015, before Rachel moved to Brooklyn, Rachel's friend Joyce met some Mosaic people (including Shawn) at a church conference in Memphis. When Rachel moved to Brooklyn, Joyce mentioned that Mosaic might be a good church to check out. As crazy at it may seem - what with two beautiful people - it wasn't love at first sight. Over the course of the next year, it was other qualities that they began noticing in one another as they served with and nearby one another at church. Making music on Sundays, church graphics or art during the week, and then ending up in the same missional family (small group / bible study). After a while, Rachel asked Shawn to grab dinner as friends, just the two of them. It was fun, and they went again (after a nice Haiku Rachel wrote), though Shawn was kind of sick and fully oblivious to what Rachel had been thinking and discussing with friends for some time. After church the next Sunday, she asked if he would consider going on a real date. He was surprised, but definitely interested. He planned a date for that Memorial day weekend, and they ended up spending most every spare moment together that week, before making it official under a tree in Prospect Park.

Dating

Lots of dates, hanging out, making dinner, some time on separate continents, more times together, FaceTimes, some postcards, some texts etc.

Engagement

15 January!

It was nighttime, after missional family (small group / bible study), Dan was told to stay in his room. Shawn got out a zine that he had made Rachel. They went through it– there was a little comic strip he had drawn, a collage of plantys, a game called Red Flag, Green Flag (that kind of played a little like Snakes and Ladders or Shoots and Ladders for our US friends) which had a Haiku that Shawn wrote (!!) and some cool infographs! It ended with a heartfelt letter and the knee thing, and of course the ring thing!

Legally Bond(ed)

you know, like Legally Blonde? but legally married?

Some of you may know most of this part of the story, and others of you may have seen the video on Facebook from March. It's a long story, but one we'd be happy to share with you– just reach out and we'll fill you in! We'll certainly mention it during the proceedings in June, where we hope you'll join us to celebrate and encourage us as we begin our journey together as a married couple!

For all the days along the way
