Our Love Story

How We Met Though we technically met as teachers at work, we actually both saw each other before then. Sam saw Yaw at Wood Tavern the summer before she moved to Miami. She remembered thinking, "if guys are cute like that here, then I'm going to like it in Miami." Yaw first saw Sam after his friend found out Sam ("a girl with fire red hair") would be working at Yaw's school and stalked her on FB. Needless to say, their first encounter wasn't chance. The Proposal (Yaw's Version) 8am Sam's friend Taylor arrives in Boston and my friend Yoavi picks her up so that she can attend the proposal. I had spent the entire week pampering Sam and encouraging her self-care. The morning of the proposal, before we went to brunch, I remember Sam freaking out about her hair, but I still thought, "Yes! She has no idea we are having more than just brunch." The Proposal (Sam's Version) We got to brunch around 11am and, though I suspected a proposal might be coming, the fact that we didn't have a brunch reservation quickly deterred my suspicion. We had a delicious brunch in North End then he told me that he was taking me on a boat. As he drove us to Boston Commons, I kept trying to figure out what boat would be in the park and the only thing I could think of were the swan boats on the lake. My proposal radar went way up again! As we walked through the park, he kept tricking me by changing the subject every time that he made a statement that sounded like the beginning of proposal. The final trick came when we got to the swan boats and he walked straight past them. I followed toward an empty plot of field on the lake where there was a red blanket, rose petals, wine, a stuffed unicorn, and a journal. He walked me to the blanket and told me to look at the beautiful water. When I turned back around, he was on one knee. I hardly heard what he said because I was nervous, but I said yes and the bystanders in the park cheered while our friends came from their hiding places.
