Despite what Yasmene wanted Malik to tell his parents, they did not meet at a café or bookstore. Instead, they met after Yasmene gave herself a concussion in her ice hockey class and responded to all of her Tinder matches - Malik included. Being the only match that had a decent response to her overly excited "I got a concussion today!" message, they went on a date a week later and haven't stopped talking since. Even when Yasmene told Malik she was leaving for Jordan for six months, fully expecting to be dumped, Malik responded with "I'll be here when you get home, what's the difference?" For the last 8 years that has been their motto - I'll be here when you get home. Home has changed since then, from Yasmene's dorm at HPU, to living together for the first time at Malik's house in High Point, and finally to their apartment here in Buffalo, a two things remain clear: 1) Home is where the other person is. 2) A concussion is the best thing that ever happened to them.
