I have never been to an Indian wedding. What should I expect?

What is Sangeet?

Answer

The day before the formal ceremony, the bride's and the groom's families and friends come together and and perform song and dance routines. This ritual presents an informal setting for two families and their friends to get to know each other well.

What should I wear?

Answer

For Sangeet, you are not expected to but encouraged to wear traditional Indian attire. Bold and bright colors with accessories would be ideal. If you do not want to wear Indian outfit, wear something comfortable that you can dance in. The dress code for the wedding and reception will be formal evening attire, Indian or western. What is Baraat?

Answer

Baraat is a wedding procession that brings the groom to the wedding venue with dancing family and friends. At the end of the precession, the bride's mother welcomes the groom at the entrance.

The sangeet is indoors and outdoors. The wedding and the reception are indoors.
