We first met at our church in New York 6 years ago. Yannie was on the 4th stop of her medical training around the world, while John finally settled down in New York after his studies in Oxford, Ithaca, and Edmonton. John is the quiet and academic type, and prefers spending his weekends sipping coffee at bookstores. Yannie is even quieter (until you get to know her), but sporty and adventurous. She steadily built up a reputation for calling 911 during her weekend hikes with friends around NYC, but people (including John) kept joining all the crazy events she planned. In July 2019, Yannie got a job offer back home in California after completing her medical training. John unintentionally wrote “come back Yannie” in the farewell group chat. Through a series of unforeseen circumstances, God brought Yannie BACK to the East Coast 8 months after leaving New York. Even more unexpectedly, Yannie shattered her wrist snowboarding with her friends not long after returning. It took two surgeries to fix her wrist. John reached out to her after the second surgery, and they never stopped chatting. Not long after, John invited Yannie on a date along her favorite NYC skyline. It took a pandemic and a shattered wrist for us to slow down and discover that despite our apparent differences, we are actually quite compatible. Yannie learned to cook for John, and John accompanied Yannie on adventures such as snowmobiling in Colorado during the pandemic! We are grateful to God for bringing us together, and we praise God for our family and friends who rejoiced with us as we began our life journey together.
