Our Beginning

"It all started with a high school crush – glances across the hall or in orchestra, noticing all the little things that made her special. We'd sometimes catch each other looking, but embarrassingly never admit it. I was more shy back then, especially around her. We shared a number of interests and always seemed to end up in the same clubs, drawing us even closer. Chelsea began dropping small hints, hoping I'd notice, but I wasn't wise enough then to realize they meant something deeper. Eventually, her hints became harder to miss – finding excuses to get my phone number, doing ridiculously over-the-top favors, and seizing every opportunity to start a conversation. My first thought was that I'd never met anyone so kind and sweet – that no one else could compare to her. Still, I was afraid to read into it; I couldn’t bring myself to believe someone so wonderful could actually like me back. All of that led to the fateful day of our first date, when she texted me after school: "It's a perfect day to get ice cream!" I couldn't have agreed more – it was the first thing I had done when I got home. Thankfully, she was smart (and persistent) enough to clarify that she wanted to get ice cream *with me*. That connected a lot of dots... and I couldn't have been happier to go for seconds." - Max “One of my earliest memories of Max is simple but unforgettable – he held the door open for my sisters and I one evening after an orchestra concert. It was such a small gesture, but there was something about the way he did it that made me notice him differently from that moment on. There was a warmth in his kindness that lingered, and before long, I started to look forward to the next time our paths might cross. From the very beginning, there was something about Max that felt different – the quiet warmth in his smile, a gentleness in the way he listened, and an ease that made every moment feel natural. We seemed to find each other everywhere: in orchestra, in clubs, in the in-between moments of high school life. What began as small glances and shared moments slowly became something more. I’ll admit, I may have dropped a few hints along the way – a borrowed excuse for conversation, a shared student council project, a simple text about ice cream, but beneath it all was the hope that he might feel what I did. That day was simple and perfect – two people sitting side by side, laughing over something as small as a melting cone, both realizing that something had changed. We sat together, talking and laughing, realizing how natural it all felt – how right it felt. Looking back, I can see how every small moment led us there: the shared clubs, the quiet glances, and yes – even the way he held that door open all those years ago. That day wasn’t just our first date – it was the beginning of the story we’ve been writing ever since.” - Chelsea
