Our story began in late 2021. I was serving in a leadership role at church and was inviting fellow Kadiwas to a youth activity. Jean was someone I’d seen often at worship services, but she rarely stayed to socialize. With the pandemic still around, that wasn’t surprising—but I wanted her to feel included. So, I reached out and invited her. She was hesitant at first but I assured her that everyone was friendly—and told her I’d be there the whole time. She finally agreed... as long as I went with her. That night, I picked her up, we attended the activity, and afterwards, we grabbed boba. We had a great conversation on the way home. That moment started a friendship that quickly became something more. We started going on a few dates to get to know each other better. With each one, I felt us getting closer. Then she invited me to her birthday party—to meet her family and friends. I was excited but nervous. Her family was welcoming. Her older brother, Kuya John, shared stories about her growing up and asked me to take good care of her. Her younger brother, Drix, proudly introduced me as his new kuya. It meant a lot to be accepted so warmly. That night, I knew I didn’t just like her—I was already falling in love with her. On January 3rd, I asked her to meet me for breakfast at the park. I pulled out a necklace and asked her to be my girlfriend. She said yes—and that day became one of my favourites. Two years later, after lots of prayer and reaching some of our shared goals, I knew it was time. Along with my parents, I met with Jean’s family—without her knowing—and asked her dad for permission to marry her. Her parents gave us their blessing. A few days later, we went on a hike with my sister, who secretly carried the ring. At the top of the trail, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. From the beginning, we’ve prayed for a relationship guided by faith. Through every step, every milestone, every quiet moment, we’ve felt God’s presence leading us forward. Now, we invite you, our beloved family and friends, to witness our most special day: the day we become one before God. - Xyrel
