Things To Do

The Wedding Website of A R and X M
If you’re visiting from overseas, Northern Portugal is ideal for extending your stay. Distances are short, the pace is relaxed, and the region offers historic cities, wine country, coastline, and excellent food. If you have 3 days: Focus on Porto. Explore the historic center (Ribeira), walk along the Douro River, cross the Dom Luís I Bridge, visit São Bento station, and enjoy food and Port wine tastings in Vila Nova de Gaia. If you have 4 days: Spend 2 days in Porto, then add a day trip to the Douro Valley (vineyards, river views, wine tastings) or hiking in nearby nature areas such as Peneda-Gerês National Park. If you have 5 days: Combine Porto (2 days), the Douro Valley (1–2 days, ideally with an overnight stay), and a day of hiking or nature in Peneda-Gerês National Park. Optionally add a short stop on the Atlantic coast (Esposende, Apúlia, or Ofir) for beaches and seafood. Renting a car offers the most flexibility, but trains and guided tours also work well.
