Xiaobo and Fred met at their mutual friend Lawrence's dinner party and sat across the table from each other. It was π day, and as a proud math major, Xiaobo was excited about celebrating mathematics and perhaps more importantly about eating pie. Who knew that Fred was a much more serious math major, and they hit it off immediately, passionately discussing a wide range of topics they were interested in, from Bitcoin to Economics, to traveling and skiing. Fred then invited Xiaobo to go on the last ski trip of the season with him and friends, and the rest is history.

Over the 2018 Easter break, Xiaobo and Fred traveled to Tuscany and Cinque Terre to enjoy some time off: driving through beautiful countryside, eating amazing food, drinking delicious wine, hiking along the colorful coast of the Italian Riviera, and spending time with their respective favorite person. In a vineyard surrounded by the beautiful rolling hills of Tuscany facing the medieval town of San Gimignano, Fred got down on one knee and popped the question, and Xiaobo said yes!
