Our Journey

Some love stories begin with grand gestures. For Keisha and Kirby, theirs is a quiet reminder of God’s grace—and how beauty can rise from ashes. Keisha and Kirby first crossed paths in the early ’90s. But their story cannot be told without honoring two women who remain an important part of it: Keisha’s late sister, Tracey, and Kirby’s late wife, Sharia. ~ TRACEY & SHARIA ~ Kirby met Tracey in the late ’80s, and they remained close into the mid ’90s. After losing touch for a time, they reconnected years later—both now married. During that season, Tracey formed a close friendship with Kirby’s wife, Sharia. Their families spent time together often, and Keisha was frequently present. Everyone knew everyone. Tracey and Sharia shared a special bond, though both would go on to face serious illnesses. Tracey passed away unexpectedly—on Sharia’s birthday. Just months after, Sharia also passed. The loss was profound, and both families continue to heal. In the midst of that grief, Keisha and Kirby grew closer. The phrase “beauty for ashes,” from Book of Isaiah 61:3, speaks of replacing mourning and despair with something restored and whole. That truth quietly unfolded in their lives. What began as two people simply showing up for each other—with no expectations, no pressure—grew into a steady and meaningful friendship built on kindness. ~ KEISHA & KIRBY ~ One ordinary morning, Kirby called Keisha and invited her to a comedy show. At the time, it felt like an easy, comfortable choice—just two friends spending time together. Today, Kirby calls it their first date. Keisha disagrees. She insists it was nothing more than two friends hanging out. The truth likely sits somewhere in between—but it marked the beginning of something neither of them expected. Not long after, both recognized that something had shifted. Their friendship deepened, and what followed felt natural—like something unfolding exactly as it was meant to. Today, they are joining two lives and two households into one family—Keisha, Kirby, Ben, Kyra, and their beloved fur-babies, Marble and Maple (affectionately known as M&M). On June 24, 2026—a palindromic date (6-24-26)—they will exchange vows in a private ceremony. On June 27, 2026, they will celebrate with family and friends. Keisha and Kirby are grateful to share this new chapter with the people they love most—and thankful to everyone who has been part of their journey.
