Wyatt and Laney first met in high school when they were both on the cross country team. Though, they didn't truly get to know each other until the end of Wyatt's senior year into the summer before he entered college. That summer, they grew closer and closer until, eventually, Wyatt asked Laney out on a date. Wyatt pulled out all the stops for their first date and, needless to say, they hit it off and the rest is history!
Laney and Wyatt's engagement story is definitely one for the books. For starters, let it be known that Wyatt is quite the romantic, so he manages to surprise Laney with his ideas constantly. The night that he proposed to Laney, she was not expecting it at all. It was New Years Eve and they had plans to celebrate the New Year with Laney's family. The year prior, they danced to Fly Me To The Moon, by Frank Sinatra, in the middle of the Boston Common (this detail will re-emerge later in the story). They were excited to spend yet another one together. As Wyatt began driving over to pick up Laney for the evening, he ended up getting in an accident involving a deer running in front of his car. From this point forward, any inkling of a possible proposal evaporated from Laney's mind and she immediately started driving over to Wyatt to ensure he was okay. Luckily, Wyatt was safe and sound, but unfortunately his Honda Pilot was not. Surprisingly, Wyatt still insisted on continuing plans as usual, so they did. They spent the evening watching the New Years programs on TV and around ten minutes until midnight, Wyatt suggested they all go to the beach for midnight. They all agreed, and somehow Laney still did not suspect a thing. Minutes later, Wyatt began to play Fly Me To The Moon and they slow-danced on the beach up until the clock struck midnight. At that exact moment, Wyatt went down on one knee, and that night went down as one of the happiest nights of both of their lives.
