We “met” in high school on a silly social media app called voxer entirely by chance. Wyatt clicked on Kaitlyn by mistake while searching for a different friend who shares the same name. However, he of course thought she was far too cute to just say sorry and goodbye. Instead, we chatted for many days and many nights secretly crushing over one another while thinking there was no chance of ever being able to handle the distance. Therefore, a simple crush turned into a very real and lasting friendship that lasted for over half a decade. Flash forward 6 years later and finally we had a chance to meet in person and we took it. Sparks, of course, flew and we started officially dating despite being 3000 miles apart. Despite only seeing each other every few months we still managed to go to disney world together, go bow shooting in reno, stay at a cabin in tahoe, drink hot chocolate at the top of a snow-capped mountain, and spend a dream-like week together in Paris. Unfortunately, we then would come to find that distance would not be our biggest problem. In November 2018, Wyatt was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Kaitlyn flew out immediately after hearing the news and was by Wyatt’s side in December when he had surgery to remove his brain tumor. She stayed in Reno with him for several months until he was completely recovered from surgery. We then continued our long distance routine while Wyatt continued treatment. In October of 2019, Wyatt rented a boat ride in front of magic kingdom to watch the fireworks for Kaitlyn’s birthday. With the clapping of fireworks behind us and the flashes of loved one’s phones in front, Wyatt got down on one knee and asked Kaitlyn to marry him. Since you’re reading this, you can conclude what her answer was! Due to Wyatt’s illness, we still have a lot of tough times to deal with, but when we are together, it all becomes background noise to the happiness we find within each other.
