They met at a family owned Chinese restaurant in a little suburban town of Chicago. One was an energetic server, the other an over confident brat. Both enrolled at Northern Illinois University, naïve, hopeful and ready to get away. Both thought that was the end of the interaction, until their paths crossed at parties, bars, associations, labs and apartments. They gave it a college try; not once, twice but the third time was 'Finally' the charm.
After 10 years of being coy, Johnny decided to he wanted to do a mud race in Seattle. The original plan was while he's playing in the mud, she would enjoy the food scene at Pike's Place. However, through a lot of emotional manipulation, Sonya "decided" she wanted to get muddy too. As the race began, she gagged from the overwhelming scent of rotten foliage; while Johnny giggled and patted his back pocket. Throughout the race she got scrapped, cut and bruised, but she never gave up and he never left her side. She even started to enjoy it. At the finish line, blinded by her bestial need for a protein shake, she ran past a big bouquet of pink balloons, like 8ft off the ground big, and excited friends. With her back turned, Johnny clawed opened his back pocket, ripped open the quadruple layered zip-lock bag and took a knee. She turned, the background was silent, as he, with muddied and calloused hands, presented her a shiny rock.
