We still debate about who sent the first message on Grindr. It was the last day before Wren was scheduled to go home for Christmas break so his roommates were out, and Karlos came over. After spending some time together, we went for a walk to get food. Suddenly we were holding hands and laughing, and the conversation was so easy it was as if we’d known each other for years. Karlos slept over that night and the next day we talked for several hours over bagels, which is still one of our favorite traditions. When Wren had to leave to catch his flight, Karlos surprised him with a goodbye kiss. While we were apart we facetimed and texted every day until Wren returned to Los Angeles and we were able to go on our first official date to Santa Monica pier.
We’d planned to go to Disneyland to escape our regular busy routine. It was a beautiful day with lots of sun so we decided to take photos in front of the Castle. While we were in line, we practiced our poses so we were ready. When we got to the front we took some pictures, then to Wren’s surprise Karlos began getting down on one knee. He was confused until Karlos took out a ring box and proposed. Wren was so shocked he forgot how to speak. When he finally said yes, Karlos barely had time to put the ring on his finger before he was swarmed by Wren’s high school friends. They had been waiting and watching from the bushes. I was a surreal moment that we’ll never forget.
