Chapter One

Falling In Love

Once upon a September in the year 2023, Carlyn was sad at heart and weary of the world. She had no desire to venture out, let alone lose herself in the bustle of festival crowds. Yet her friends, with just the right blend of persistence and affection, refused to let her fade into solitude. They coaxed her from her home, determined to lift her spirits and remind her of joy. And so, against her own reluctance; and with the aid of more than a few cups of ale, Carlyn found herself at the New York Renaissance Faire. Elsewhere among the fairegrounds, Justin arrived with friends. He, too, had not planned to make much of the outing, but allowed himself to be carried along by the whim of the day. For a time, Carlyn and Justin wandered in separate groups, their paths winding through the lively lanes; past jesters and jousts, past music and merchants, never far apart, yet not quite together. It was through their circle of mutual friends that the two groups eventually met, and when they did, something shifted. Drinks were shared, laughter grew easier, and Carlyn and Justin found themselves drawn to one another with a quiet yet undeniable pull. At first, it did not seem like much. They had known of each other for years; moving in the same circles, attending the same gatherings, sharing the same friends. Yet every encounter before had been fleeting, their words little more than forgettable exchanges. So here they were, at this Renaissance Faire, dressed up, drinking ale, and seeing the other for what felt like the first time. What began as casual conversation quickly turned into something more. There was a spark; genuine and sudden; that neither of them could ignore. By the time the sun began to set and the day drew to a close, both Carlyn and Justin were asking their friends the same question: “Should I ask them out?” And to no one’s surprise, these friends all answered with a resounding, “NO!” Luckily, Carlyn and Justin had never been the best at taking advice.

Chapter Two

The Wedding…

Every fairytale begins with a spark; yet no true love story ends there. What began as chance meetings became chosen moments: long walks, late-night talks, and adventures both grand and ordinary. With each passing day, the quiet pull that first drew them together grew stronger. Where once they had been two lives drifting through the same circles, now they were two hearts charting the same path. Through seasons of laughter and trials alike, they discovered that joy doubled when shared, and sorrow halved when carried together. Their love was not built in haste, but in the gentle, steady work of seeing, knowing, and choosing each other again and again. And so, as every fairytale must, their story turns the page. The next chapter calls for vows of forever. A wedding. A promise before friends and family, spoken clear and true: to love, to cherish, to journey onward, side by side. Where once they asked, “Should I ask them out?” they will now say, “I do.”
