The Story of How We Met: Bekir had written off relationship and marriage for a long time to concentrate on building his career and taking care of his family. Although for a different reason, I had similarly given up on love and decided to focus on my journey of self discovery and traveling the world. God had a different plan for us; he brought us together when neither of us was looking for love or relationship. June 24 2023, I was at the last leg of my two months, seven countries (Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Turkey & Greece) solo travel tour when destiny intervened. It was my third day in Istanbul, Turkey and I had cancelled most of my planned activities due to exhaustion. The one remaining activity I kept was a dinner cruise which included pick up from hotel, dinner with drinks with view of the famous Bosphorus sea, and traditional Turkish dance. Bekir worked remotely from his town (Balikesir) as the transportation coordinator for the boat company. His duty includes contacting customers to arrange their transportation to the boat and coordinating with drivers etc. That day he had contacted me earlier via WhatsApp, introducing himself and requesting my hotel information for the transfer. It was a brief, professional encounter. Then evening came and luck had it, my hotel was too far for their car service so I had to take a taxi to the marina. Bekir was very professional and apologetic to the situation, he offered to help in anyway. I was not phased by the inconvenience ( that skill came from being an avid traveler) and remained kind and professional. Second luck had it, the taxi dropped me off the marina but at the wrong docking station. I had to contact Bekir again to help me reach the boat. He was kind enough to remain on the phone with me and help guided me to the boat. That brief 5-8 minutes communication opened door of friendship (or so I thought). Arrived at the boat, I was graced by a surprise drink with fireworks, compliment of Bekir. It was the first time someone whom I've never met, sent me a surprise gift with no string attached. It was unexpected, very refreshing and rare. I texted to thank him and something change in me; even through distance we both sensed something extraordinary about each other so we chose to commit on that. Bekir and I fell in love and committed to marriage long before we met in person. He said he fell in love with my heart, he felt a light in me and calls me his angel. I fell in love with his character; he's the most noble man I know. His consistency surprised me the most, I have never met a man who does exactly what he says he would do and remains consistent day after day. He's very reliable, loyal, humble, hard working, kind hearted and mostly easy going. I can write for days about his character. Meeting him in person 3 months after our first messages only solidified our commitment and love. Long distance has been our enemy but we face it with hope that our love holds stronger than distance and the purpose of our union is greater than ourselves. We're joining two different racial, cultural and religious background into one unit. There is a greater purpose for this design that's in play. We look forward to what God (Allah) has planned for us.
