How We Met

Kate: Witt and I lived on the same floor freshman year of college, and I had to pass by his room on the way to the water fountain. He was always super friendly and said hello each time I walked by. The thing that I remember most about him after all these years was that he wore really fancy shoes with no socks. I could never understand how his feet didn't get sweaty. But even then, there was something that drew me to his amazing personality, hilarious sense of humor, and very kind soul. I knew that I wanted this person in my life, even if it was just as friends. Witt: Kate lived a few doors down in our dorm at F&M. I remember the first time I met Kate was when another friend and I had bought a birthday poster for someone else on our hall. We were having random people sign it because we all did not know each other yet. I yelled down the hallway, "Hey, you! Do you want to sign this poster?" and then this blonde girl in glasses came walking down the hall. She had a confidence about her that made you know she was special. Eventually, I was lucky enough to tag along to a couple of group things she was going to be at and then our friendship began.

We were friends for a long time...

From the beginning of college, we were friends. Starting freshman year, we began to hang out more and more, doing homework together, cracking jokes, and always trying to roast each other. Over the course of 3 years, we became amazing support systems for one another, but we unknowingly friendzoned each other, to the point where neither person suspected that the other held any romantic feelings. For nearly two of our three years of friendship, we each went about our lives, never knowing that a relationship was right within our grasp. Instead, we just focused on being the best friends that we could be, and in the meantime we developed an incredibly strong sense of trust, communication, forgiveness, and empathy with one another, all characteristics that laid the foundation for the beautiful relationship we have now and will be the foundation for the beautiful marriage we have to come.

Summer 2022... Long Distance

In the summer of 2022, honest conversations finally took place. Feelings were shared and relationships formed. For the first time in our lives, we were "more than friends." We were living about 2 hours away from one another, but each Friday we would meet in the middle in Philly and spend the entire day together. We found cute breakfast cafes, took walks in the scenic areas of the city, visited museums, and most nights we would finish our time together at Cira Green, a rooftop garden in the city. And each week, the night would come to an end much too soon, as we rushed to make the last train, savoring every last moment.

Fall 2022... Even Longer Distance

Coming off a summer of long distance, we immediately launched ourselves into even longer distance... 5,056 miles to be exact. We spent our final semester at Franklin and Marshall on different continents, Witt here in Lancaster and myself (Kate) studying abroad in Chile. And yet, despite the added obstacle, our relationship grew even closer. We prioritized phone calls, and we talked about everything: the big stuff, the little stuff, the funny moments and the frustrating ones. Although the time spent apart was not our favorite thing, we found that we grew stronger and closer... and we knew we never wanted to be apart like that again!

"There are only two things left to do"

"First, I need to take out this ring. Next, I need to get on one knee." Yes, this is an exact quote from the proposal. It is not something I (Witt) am proud of, but did it get the job done? Yes. Are we getting married now? But of course. So... prepare yourselves for the multitude of times Kate will bring up this story because it is a good one and an embarrassing one. Hope you enjoy the rest of the website! See you soon!
