During their first year at Creighton they were introduced by teammates at the annual baseball Halloween party. Ryan was dressed as a Purple Cobra dodgeball player and Olivia was dressed as Beyoncé- a classic love story.
The first date didn't happen until the following October. The two went to a Creighton men's soccer game and then grabbed ice cream and walked around the Old Market of Omaha.
Olivia's parents visited Creighton for Parents Weekend in the fall and met Ryan for the first time. To make a good impression on the parents at dinner he choked down not one but two helpings of brussel sprouts, which must have worked because they thought he was a very polite and respectful guy. Olivia later learned that night he hated brussel sprouts. Since then he's grown to like them—as long as there is bacon with it. Olivia later met Ryan's parents in the winter and made a trip out to Minnesota for the New Year before driving back to school together. She was given a nice Minnesota welcome and learned what a harsh winter really meant when Ryan and Luke (Ryan's brother) took her trap shooting for the first time in -10 degree weather. She hit zero targets that day.
Ryan graduated in spring of 2018 and a couple weeks later received a phone call he was drafted by the Washington Nationals organization. For the next 5 years Ryan’s career in baseball led him to many different places across the east coast. During this time, Ryan and Olivia dated long distance but she was able to visit throughout the season and explore new places along the east coast with him. Olivia graduated the following spring in 2019 and went home to Seattle for the remainder of the year where she worked in a contract role at an independent advertising agency under one of the best agency presidents she has seen in her professional career, her dad. In the New Year she decided it was time to go back to the midwest and got a job in Chicago.
After 5 years of baseball and long distance Ryan got a job in medical sales in Chicago! Finally the two are in the same city again. They have enjoyed trying all of the great restaurants around the city and living near the lake.
After Thanksgiving Ryan surprised Olivia with a trip to New York in December. On a morning walk around the Jackie O. Reservoir in Central Park he popped the question. They later celebrated with dinner and a Broadway show!
