The story of how I met Christina is pretty simple. It all dates back to an August night in 2015, as I was entering my last semester of college and Christina was starting graduate school. Some mutual friends were having a back to school party that evening. I had noticed Christina showed up in my "People You May Know" section on my Facebook page. I hadn't met her, but I thought she sure was gorgeous! I was in luck that evening, because she was talking to a mutual friend of ours, Tyler. Apparently the topic of the San Antonio Spurs (Go Spurs Go) came up and Tyler said "Oh, if you're a big Spurs fan, you should meet Cameron!" I turned around and Tyler introduced us, and I spent the rest of the evening talking to Christina and realizing she's as sweet as she is pretty. By the end of the night, I knew I needed to get to know her better. The next weekend she sat behind me at Texas Tech football game and we talked some more. We started Snapchatting, and then one evening we got drinks at the Lantern Tavern in Lubbock. 4 hours of great conversation later, I was smitten and the rest, as they say, is history.
Cameron and I were doing long distance at the time of our engagement, which also happened to be the weekend of our four-year anniversary. When we were talking about our weekend plans, Cameron mentioned he had purchased "tickets” to a Texas Tech basketball game, thinking it was a Monday night game instead of a Saturday night one. Since our anniversary dinner was the same night as the game, his "co-worker" agreed to take the “tickets” off Cameron's hand, but we would need to meet his "co-worker" on-campus before our dinner reservation. When we drove up to Texas Tech, he had asked if I wanted to walk around campus before our dinner reservation since it was such a beautiful day. Naturally, I said yes because walking around campus was one of our favorite past-times. As we began the walk towards the center of campus, I noticed that we were meeting Cameron's "co-worker" at the same spot he had asked me to be his girlfriend all those years ago, at a water fountain near the English building. Then I see a girl taking photos by one of the buildings. She suddenly stops taking pictures, comes over to Cameron and I, introduces herself as a photographer for the Texas Tech newspaper, and asked if she could take photos of us for her portfolio. Cameron was quick to agree, so I went with it! As we started walking (and taking photos), Cameron began saying sweet and romantic things to me. When we approached the water fountain, Cameron walked in front of me, and I see a bunch of rose petals laid out throughout the area, four roses to represent each year of our relationship, a bottle of rosé, two champagne glasses, and a ring box! Cameron wrapped me in his arms, told me he wanted to spend this rest of his life with me, kissed me, and got down on one knee and proposed! It was by far the easiest "YES" of my life.
