They say music brings us together, well, it quite literally did in the case of Tyler and Christina. The steel pan is the reason they met! Having seen Old Mill High School's Steel Drum Band play at her elementary school, Christina knew she wanted to join the band when she entered high school. When Tyler was choosing which high school to attend, he was shown a video of Old Mill's Steel Drum Band play "Uptown Funk" and was sold. Though they were in the same band, their paths never really crossed. She went to concerts he played in but didn't know him. Tyler didn't sign up in his Junior year, so when Christina was in advanced band, he was not. They ended up playing the very same set of steel drums, which meant that in free period, Christina was always kicking him off to practice. They officially met on the first day of school (his Senior year, her Junior year) in their Steel Drum class. Since Tyler and Christina both played the same instrument (Double Seconds) and she was alone on that side of the classroom, he chose the set next to hers. From there, they bonded over their shared love of music, film, hobbies, and their sense of humor (they're both *really* funny). After being friends for a few months, they mutually confessed their feelings for one another on January 16th, 2019. Tyler and Christina attended his Senior Prom, and later his High School graduation. The pandemic cancelled Christina's Prom and official graduation, but Tyler still attended her "Drive-Thru" ceremony. Christina also got to watch Tyler walk for his graduation from UMBC in 2023, and will again in 2027 for his graduation from Johns Hopkins University. The couple enjoys concerts, musicals, the occasional O's game, and visiting theme parks. Christina's love of photography means you might find them out and about at parks, in flower fields, or pretty much anywhere picturesque. Tyler's obsession with history means you will also often see them exploring museums and historic sites. They still meet with their Alumni Steel Band and get to play steel drum together, as well as meeting with Games Club, also alumni of OMHS, to play board and card games. They love watching movies, video games, but most importantly, each other's company and the conversations they have. After 6.5 years together, Tyler proposed to Christina on July 26th, 2025 at Patterson Park in Baltimore, and they are so excited to (finally) tie the knot!
