A gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge! We did a sunrise session here for our engagement photos. If it’s too crowded here, an alternative is Chrissy Fields (on the bay side of the bridge). The GGB is one of our favorite views and a must see if you’ve never been to the Bay Area.
A laidback restaurant with a waterfront view. Katie’s family likes to stop in here on a sunny day or after a hike. Katie recommends the ahi poke, while Matt recommends a true seaside classic, clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl (and yes he will eat the entire bread bowl). You can’t go wrong with the beers here. After take a walk down the pier or over to Mavericks to get a glimpse of the monstrous waves!
Coming in the day before the wedding? One of Matt and Katie’s favorite events are Sofar Sounds. These are intimate concerts showcasing local artists in eclectic venues. They’ve seen shows in bookstores, plant shops, yoga studios, and the basements of vintage consignment stores! These shows happen all over the city and are a great way to start your night.
Looking to see a view of the city from higher grounds? Twin Peaks provides a great view of the city especially in October when Karl the fog is usually on vacation.
The Bay Area has beautiful hiking trails. If you’ll be in town for a few days, we recommend getting out into nature. If you’re looking for short, easy trails with ocean views we recommend Sweeney Ridge (starting at the Sneath parking lot) or Milagra Ridge. For short, easy trails with a bay view check out Sugarloaf. For longer, forresty hikes drive west on highway 92 and turn left on Skyline. There’s hundreds of hiking trails off of this road, both on the bay and ocean side. We recommend El Corte De Madeira Creek Preserve, where you can check out the Tafoni sandstone formations or the Methuselah Tree. For views of the Golden Gate Bridge, checkout Slacker Hill via Morning Sun Trailhead. Head over to Hook Fish Co for your well deserved fish tacos and beer. If you’re really trying to burn some calories, checkout Montara Mountain starting from Montara State Beach. 🥵
If you’re looking for good food and good coffee to cure your day after hangover, look no further than Soul Grind. We love it here! After your coffee you can walk over for a beer at Humble Sea, a taco and boozy Baja blast at the world famous beachfront Taco Bell Cantina, or take a walk on Pacifica State Beach to check out the surfers!
