I saw her across the room, standing with her back to me, wearing an extra large lederhosen (German party garb). Not realizing this was a costume party --indeed, she was the only one dressed up--I thought to myself, "poor girl, she must have been homeschooled and never learned to dress normally." (sorry all my homeschooled friends. I love you dearly!) A few minutes later she turned around and I thought, "WOW, she's a cute homeschooler." Another few minutes later she came over to my group and promptly interrupted my story with a feisty retort! A cute and feisty one. That was it. I was in love. I never caught her name that night but couldn't stop thinking about her for the next three months. I finally set up a 'networking event' with her as an excuse to see her again. After that she turned me down three times before finally saying she'd let me buy her a drink -- at 10pm at a restaurant in DC. She had just pulled an all-nighter for grad school. I had a 103 degree fever. It was magical. The rest, as they say, is history.
