After fighting the move for months, Emma had to finally be okay with the move across the country from Maine to Florida right before her senior year of high school. It was just 2 days after the move that Emma was invited to join a running club that Winston and his friend Andrew had started. Emma went with her sister Celina and her new friends, Anne and Lily. This is the day they met right on the bridge near Donahue (the school). So they started talking a bit, and Winston confessed that he liked Emma, who of course said the same. Emma was a bit hesitant at first, but after waiting, she realized how amazing Winston really was. They started dating on November 8th, 2020. Emma and Winston went on walks around the lakes, said Rosaires together, hung out at youth group and school, and when Emma went to college at Ave Maria University, she even snuck him into college dances. It soon came to the time when Winston was going off to Notre Dame. Long distance was hard, but they FaceTimed every night for a daily update on life and enjoyed seeing each other over breaks. It was December of 2023 when Winston said, “I’d like to take you on a nice date this week.” So, they went off to Naples to have a nice dinner. Emma was wearing an orange dress (which is the best color and Emma and Winston’s favorite color). After returning to Emma’s house after a great Italian dinner, Emma was being distracted by her sister Celina while Winston left the house and drove off. A few minutes later, Emma got a call from Winston, who told her to go to the bridge by Donahue. Emma was really confused and, thinking this was just some fun surprise, ran out of the house barefoot to find out what this man was up to. By the time she got to the bridge, Winston was nowhere to be seen, but there was a sign on the bridge that said, “This is where we first met.” This led her to another sign, and another one, and the last one told her to go to the Our Lady of Guadalupe statue in a garden by the University. Emma drove there, ran across the bridge, and found Winston with torches lit all around him. He knelt down and asked her to marry him. She said yes and cried with excitement for at least a few minutes. The next thing Emma said was, “Do my parents know?”.
