One chilly November day, Ryan and Rachel were on their way to do an escape room. They’d done this one before but got stuck. On the car ride over, Rachel explained her meticulously crafted plan to improve their time. They arrived at the escape room. An oblivious Rachel rushed room to room, assembling sundials and solving code words spelled out in candles. The escape room’s heat was blasting, despite this, Ryan kept his coat on. The clock was ticking down, but they were in the last portion of the room. The race was on. Rachel rummaged through a treasure chest of gold goblets and coins, calling out clues to Ryan. Ryan fiddled with the room’s antique phone, they were stuck, unable to get the phone’s hidden message to play. Ryan glanced up at the clock. Rachel ran back through the room to help with the phone, quickly solving the code, opening the message, and running back to the treasure chest. One code remained, minutes left on the clock, she was dialed in, focused, determined. A noise played from the room’s television, signaling a clue, Rachel dashed out and looked up, but what she saw was not what she expected: “Look at someone who loves you.” She looked over at Ryan, confused. He was down on one knee with a ring. She said yes. He’d managed to surprise her, and that’s not an easy thing to do. With all the excitement they didn’t escape the room in time, but they walked out into the lobby to find their families waiting excitedly, having watched the whole event play out on the escape room’s cameras!
