It Was Always Going To Be You

Brandon and Winona first met at Bradley University during a time when all classes were still online and making genuine connections felt nearly impossible. Both being engineering students, they quickly noticed one another in their Gen-Ed Communications class freshman year. Brandon, deciding he had nothing to lose, took a leap of faith and sent Winona an Instagram DM "about school." What began as a conversation about assignments soon turned into trying to getting to know each other. While Winona was getting over a fresh breakup, Brandon was already hoping the conversation would never end. As the next year unfolded, busy schedules and demanding coursework pulled them in different directions, and they gradually lost touch. Brandon's hopes of a college romance seemed to be fading—until fate, and a particularly unforgiving combination of Calculus III and Physics, stepped in. Reunited through study groups and shared academic suffering, they quickly became close friends. Brandon was thrilled to have another chance to spend time with Winona, though he became remarkably good at finding reasons to attend every study session. Let's just say that Winona really helped Brandon out with his Chemistry homework *wink wink*. Over the remaining two and a half years of school, their friendship grew into a loving relationship built on laughter, support, and perseverance. Together, they survived engineering school, countless exams, and more late-night study sessions than either would care to count. Eventually, they crossed the graduation stage side by side and earned their Bachelor of Science degrees in Engineering. Life after college brought new adventures and new challenges. Brandon began his career at Caterpillar while continuing to grow his startup company. Winona returned to Harmon and soon relocated to Missouri for a project assignment. What had once been a manageable two-hour drive suddenly became a much greater distance. As their relationship grew, so did their individual ambitions. Brandon and Winona encouraged one another to pursue their careers, chase big dreams, and embrace new opportunities. Through every promotion, milestone and challenge, they remained each other’s biggest supporters, celebrating successes and offering encouragement along the way. Navigating long distance was not always easy. It required patience, commitment, and a conscious choice to prioritize each other even when life seemed determined to place more obstacles in their path. Through every challenge, they learned more about themselves, strengthened their relationship, and continued building a future together. Looking back 5 years later, it's safe to say Brandon's first Instagram message worked out exactly as he had hoped. Brandon and Winona are so excited to begin this next chapter of their lives together. They look forward to embracing whatever comes their way, always by each other’s side. They’ve learned that the best parts of life aren’t about having everything figured out, but about choosing each other through it all.
