Our Love Story

She made the first move!

We met when we were just 17 years old, and it was pretty much love at first sight. Funny enough, neither of us knew we had a huge crush on each other and it would take years to find out! We both went along in our lives, trying to avoid each other at all costs. Seems like it doesn't make sense to avoid the guy you like...but Matt was SO awkward every time I tried to talk to him, making me super shy in return. It was pretty much a lost cause. But two years later, I finally decided I couldn't take it any longer and had to tell him how I felt. Yes folks, I made the first move ;) We were in Africa nearing the end of a mission trip, and we happened to be sitting and talking one night, staring at the stars and listening to the hippos and elephants in the background (not joking). I was so nervous that I just blurted out how I felt about him for so long, expecting nothing in return. Lucky for me, Matt grabbed my hand, held it tight, and told me he felt the exact same way. Or as Matt would tell the story, he "planted a kiss on me" in Africa (he is very proud of that) and he knew he would marry me right there. We will always remember that magical night that felt like a scene out of a movie. I found a keeper!!!

How He Proposed

She had no idea...

(6 years later) As the end of Kenz's internship approached I knew it was time to get the ring and prepare to bend the knee. I bought the ring on Christmas Eve and held onto it for months, waiting for the right time. I decided April would be the month, so I told Kenz we would be celebrating my cousin Carey's graduation from Law School at the Beachcomber in Crystal Cove. Adding to the pressure was the fact that her family and I were planning a surprise engagement party at her house that night with our close friends and family, and I had to make sure she had no idea. The day came and I was super nervous, but played it ultra cool (ice in my veins style) and told her we should get coffee and walk the beach before heading down. She took the bait and was having the best morning, drinking coffee and walking through the epic flower bloom in Crystal Cove. To quote Kenz on the way down to the sand, "This is like the perfect day." It was hard not to laugh but I just thought to myself, "Oh you just wait." As we came around the corner I could see the spot my brother and I had scouted the day before. He was arguing with the lifeguard and tourists to move along and stop staring. Kenz had no idea luckily and was in her own world. It wasn't until about 10 feet away as we approached the spot and Kenz started to hear one of our favorite songs start to play, that she finally noticed the set-up full of fun artifacts and memories from our relationship. She was so shocked looking at all the pictures and notes laid out. When she finally turned around towards the sea, her man was there down on one knee, holding a ring and asking her to spend the rest of her life with me. Was so dope! I nailed it!
