We were only 13 years old when we both went on a People to People Student Ambassador trip to the South Pacific. This was a 3 week trip visiting New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji. For those 3 weeks we tried to do all the activities planned together. I guess those 3 weeks weren’t enough, since after the trip we would email eachother (neither of us had cell phones then). The constant talking never did stop. We would visit, text, call, and skype. It wasn’t until Samantha was about to start her junior year of college at The University of Hawai’i that she wanted to transfer schools and make the leap to finally be with Devon. Devon was already at The Citadel in Charleston, SC at the time. So, Samantha transferred to the College of Charleston. We both graduated with our degrees and in the Summer of 2018 we moved cross country to Austin, TX with our 2 dogs (now 3). The Saturday of May 18th Devon proposed to Samantha!
Along with the rest of the world, our plans got derailed! We were sick of trying to think of the best way to get married and hope that things would go back to “normal.” So, we took it into our own hands! We eloped! Just the two of us. We truly just wanted to be married at this point. So, we made it happen! Do I recommend getting married in a pandemic?? Nope, but I guess we have one hell of a story to tell later on. The best part about how 2020 is playing out, is that now we will celebrate together that much more!
