Where are the closest airports?

Answer

In Birmingham, we have Birmingham-Shuttleworth International Airport, which is close to the interstate and minutes from downtown. Two hours away is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and it's possible that you may fly there before taking a connecter to Birmingham. Nashville International Airport is also a two-and-a-half hour drive away.

Any areas to avoid staying or exploring in Birmingham?

Answer

Yes, particularly anywhere near the airport and Woodlawn. It's easy to be enticed by hotel and Airbnb rates in this area. Avoid any neighborhoods on the west side of Birmingham, most notably Ensley. Also we recommend staying away from North Birmingham, past Protective Stadium and Top Golf.
