We met on a backpacking trip to Utah in the spring of 2011. Willis was a participant on a trip Jessica was leading. That trip was transformative for everyone, and most of us stayed close friends for many years. Willis and Jessica remained friends and climbing partners, and would occasionally meet up over the years...until the fateful first date. :) Her story: In September 2014, we bumped into each other at a Head and the Heart concert, and we chatted the entire time! I had just come back from a summer abroad, and Will had just returned from a van trip with David. I invited Will over to my birthday celebration a couple weeks later, and I specifically remember that Will was the last person to leave the party! I had made a sweet potato pie and gave him a slice to take home on the way out the door. A week later Will texted me to ask me on a date. Of course I said yes! (it must have been the pie) ;) A whole week later, we had our first date! I remember being so excited all week long while in school and I couldn't wait to get to Friday night! Will showed up with an arm full of flowers for me, and took me to Trophy Brewing for pizza, then Hayes Barton Cafe for dessert. I was sold from that first date, onward. It's been a wonderful (nearly) 5 years, and we cannot wait to be married! His story: Life is full of little moments and small decisions that make big impacts on our lives. I never thought that going on a spring break trip to Utah with a bunch of strangers would bring me years of so much joy, friendship and lead me to meet the love of my life. Eight years of friendship with Jess has taken us across the world on adventures together and we’ve seen each other grow form awkward college students trying to figure life out to young professionals who are still trying to figure life out. I love Jess for her compassion and the way she sees the world in a different way than me. I’m so excited to have her by my side for everything life will bring us.
