Josh and I met in the dorms at Cal State Long Beach my freshman year and Josh's junior year. We both had the same Major, Film and Electronic Arts, and had a common group of friends. Our first date was later that year to dinner and a movie. Josh got lost on the way. He wanted to take me to eat my favorite cuisine, Italian, but was so nervous that he couldn't find the restaurant. We ended up at the burger joint, Island's, next to the movie theater. During the movie (a scary one) Josh got up and left the theater. Little did I know at the time, he went to ask my friend who worked the concessions if he should hold my hand. When he returned, he did.
It was the evening of Mother's Day and Josh and I were in Encinitas visiting his family. He asked if I wanted to go out and get donuts. I agreed because who would ever say no to donuts at anytime of the day. We got to the donut place and they were completely out. So Josh suggest we go walk along the bluffs overlooking the ocean with our dog instead. I was not prepared for the cold so I took Josh's jacket. Apparently that was part of his plan as he knew I would take it . When I put his jacket on I noticed there was something in his pocket. I assumed it was his phone so I left it. As we were walking I saw some street graffiti that said "I'll love you always" and decided to use Josh's phone to take a picture. That's when I found out that the item in his pocket was not his phone, it was a jewelry box. I ask him what it was and he said it was my birthday present. I didn't think anything of this as he normally gets me a small piece of jewelry for my birthday each year. I put the box back in the pocket, took the picture and kept walking. He asked, "Don't you want to open your present?" I replied, "Sure!" Once I opened it, even after 10 years, I was caught off guard. I kept asking "What is this?" to which he replied, "What do you mean what is it?" Finally he asked me to marry him and I said yes!
