Veronica happened upon Will's Hinge profile and her interest was piqued by his intelligence and the fact that he actually seemed to care about things. She responded to one of his prompts and awaited his reply. Will, feeling a shared ounce of intellect and a personal pound of excitement, had to learn more about her over what would be some questionable pizza and a conversation carried on well after closing time. They met next, over equally questionable tacos, for sunset storytelling and stargazing on a shared log laying on what they now know as "Slime Beach." Three weeks to the day after they first met irl, they had their third date: a 12-hour antique-a-thon. It was easy to lose count of the dates after that. About a month and a half after their first meeting, Will and his faithful hound Rico hit the road on their All-American Roadtrip. So used to each others' voices, Will self-produced a podcast for one. He would ramble, sometimes for 40 minutes at a time, into a voice note as he drove. She would listen, take notes, and record her own podcast for one: a voice memo to the editor. Later, they would take a roadtrip together (again with Rico the Faithful) up the West Coast to our neighbors in the north. They spent two and a half weeks with each other in Will's Ford Explorer and came out of it with a shared story, but this was only exposition. Veronica and Will continued to take turns journeying across the Dumbarton Bridge to the other's side of the Bay. Each time, it became increasingly difficult to part. Veronica took one last trip to Will's side with all of her things and they moved into a new place just before their second anniversary. A few months after settling in, they welcomed their perfect angel of a son, Merlin Garrett, to their home. It was the love in this home that steeled Will's heart and steered it toward Idyllwild. Sharing in their love of the outdoors, the pair hiked a mile high in the San Jacinto mountains. Taking advantage of one of Veronica's frequent bird-watching stops, Will quickly knelt while he fumbled with his fanny pack. Veronica, absorbed by what she saw in her binoculars, vocalized recognizable traits of various species for several minutes, oblivious to Will on his knee behind her. After switching knees a couple times, Will finally asked Veronica for a moment of her time. Whether due to the exhausting trek, the midday heat, the high altitude, or perhaps some fourth thing, Veronica said "Yes." Now, they are ready to celebrate their love and commitment to each other with their loved ones: you!
