How we met

Business or Pleasure

❤️ How We Met: His side of the story ❤️ One of my earliest memories of Tanisha included the two of us enjoying each other’s company at a 1920’s party hosted by the Piedmont Club in 2012. I remember being excited about attending the Harlem Renaissance themed party because it gave me an opportunity to dress up. Draped in my suspenders, a beige tweed jacket complete with elbow patches, and a fedora borrowed from my cousin, I remember waltzing around the room, seeing a shadowy silhouette in a vintage Dress. I was in awe of her beauty and grace as we quickly became acquainted and proceeded to enjoy an evening of wine, dancing, and smiles. At the culmination of the party, I remember distinctly not wanting the night to end. And so we moved on to a pool hall in downtown Winston where I was able to show off my skills and even use the excuse to administer a lesson or two about correct form and technique (wink wink). After leaving the hall, we proceeded to a few night clubs for a few more drinks and laughs. That night to me was when the magic started. I consider that evening as our first date. And the start of our courtship. ❤️ How We Met: Her side of the story❤️ The day I met my soon to be husband William "Steve" Allen, I did not know him at the time, but we both attended Winston-Salem, Mayor Allen Joines’ roundtable talk breakfast at the Piedmont Club. The Piedmont Club was what I called a country club in the sky; a business networking membership club, located on the 19th floor of the BB&T corporate office, downtown, Winston-Salem. I had just joined after graduating from Winston-Salem State University in May of 2010. I joined the Piedmont Club because that is where professionals & young professionals went to network and get involved in the community. The Piedmont Club hosted many sophisticated, inclusive meetings, exciting networking events and engagements for NC cities and state guest speakers, wine tastings and pairings, holiday parties, etc.. (Back Story) Before the roundtable talk started, I looked over and saw the two city councilmen, James and Derwin, and a guy sitting in the Mayor’s reserve seat, I chuckled and laughed. This guy "William” (Steve) then noticed me finding him humorous, and he walked over to the table where I was sitting with a group of women to introduce himself to us. William talked about how he was from Greensboro, NC, graduated from A&T University in 2008 and was just getting into real estate as a licensed Realtor. I told him I had just graduated in May (it was then December 2010). I told William I worked for a marketing company called d3 Designs LLC, and he should advertise his business with the Black Theater Festival playbill I was promoting at the time. William said he needed a logo, and I said the company I worked for designed logos; so we exchanged business cards and we both continue to take our seats for the event to start. I thought he was a character and funny - a great young professional. With both of us joining the Piedmont Club and being part of the young professional committee, we saw each other often as members. William allowed the company I worked for to create a logo for him, which he still uses today. One night in 2012 the Piedmont Club hosted a 1920’s party and this night William wanted to make sure I was attending the party. I let him know I was coming to the event. The 1920’s was a great era, and that night turned out to be a great night because not only did we join each other for the party, dressed in 1920’s fashions, we proceeded to hang out after the party. We ended up at this Latino club for salsa dancing as well as a pool hall downtown Winston-Salem NC. That night we connected in a romantic way for the first time, enjoying each other’s company and the things we both love to do like dancing and playing games. William has not stopped calling me and taking me out on dates since 2012.  ❤️ On Novemeber 22, 2020, William (Steve) proposed to Tanisha in Charlotte at Fahrenheit Restaurant
