Our Engagement Story

By William

In summer of 2022, Misleydis and I traveled to Colorado for the first time. Our relationship was still fresh at this point and it was our first road trip together. As someone who loves to travel, I was curious to see how fun a spontaneous journey could be with each other. During the 15 hour drive from Austin, we talked about everything from personal philosophies to family history to stories we promised we would keep a secret. It was truly inspiring to hear about Misley's personal history of how she left Cuba and eventually graduated from Texas State University with her Masters Degree. I remember looking over to my passenger seat to see a beautiful Christian woman who had grace, incredible passion, and had goals for her future. I truly believe it was at this moment that I fell in love. We went on to visit several destinations in Colorado but by far our favorite part of the trip was Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. We loved hiking along the trails, taking in the stunning sights and made sure to grab a few pictures together. When our trip came to an end, we both agreed we would come back and visit this magical place another day. When planning to ask Misley to marry me, I knew the Garden of the Gods was the best place to pop the question. Money was very tight but I insisted that we still go during the Thanksgiving holiday. I explained to Misleydis the reason for the trip was to experience what the Colorado winter was like in case we wanted to move there later in life. But she had no idea the real reason was to ask her to be my wife, my partner in crime until the Lord called us home. I was nervous on the drive up to Colorado Springs but I blamed it on potential ice on the roads. After quietly praying for strength and guidance, we made it to The Garden of the Gods right as the sun was setting. We hiked up the rocks to get a better look at the sunset and when the moment felt right, with nobody in sight, I asked Misleydis to be my wife. Thankfully she said yes! We couldn't be happier and we wish all of our family and friends to join us on one of the biggest days of both of our lives.
