Lauren was sitting in the dining hall at Union University wondering who she could convince to take her to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon semi-formal dance. All of a sudden, a freshman boy in baggy sweatpants and an SAE sweatshirt walks right into her line of vision. He was unaware that where he had been dining had ketchup on the table, choosing to enter the dining hall to retrieve the condiment. Lauren found a photo of him on Instagram, texted one of his fraternity brothers, and soon enough he had added her on Snapchat and asked her to attend. After keeping him waiting for a few hours whilst he was locked in a friend's room awaiting her response, she agreed to attend the dance with him.

Lauren's parents invited Will to dinner following her victory at Union's Variety Show, prior to their relationship becoming official. With the approval of her family, she finally became Will's girlfriend when he asked her at the SAE formal dance. Will was relieved to finally have sealed the deal, after previously indicating he was ready to make things official.

Many formals, semi-formals, and date parties were attended between the SAE and Kappa Delta events. Will served as "Dagger Dude" for Kappa Delta while Lauren served as president, helping her in all her duties. They frequently indulged in trips to Cook Out to get cajun fries, went backroading listening to music, and hung out together in the dorms (only during open dorm hours, don't worry).

Lauren and Will maintained a "medium distance" relationship, commuting from Jackson to Memphis or Memphis to Jackson almost every weekend for three years. While distance can be difficult, they were able to grow their communication skills and remain committed to the relationship. Around 16,000 miles and many gallons of gas!

Lauren is difficult to be tricked, so much thought went into Will's planning of the proposal. He managed to convince her, with the help of his sister, that there would be a baby shower for his cousin they needed to attend. Knowing Lauren wanted to look her best, he needed a good excuse to have her dressed up. As they went on their way to the "baby shower", he was talking her ear off. She would have found this more odd if she hadn't been so tired. She woke up very quickly when they pulled into the parking lot of beautiful church. Will had planned out a beautiful scene for the proposal and appeased Lauren's love language of words of affirmation in his proposal.
