Also known as Knoxville's Urban Wilderness, Ijams is a nature preserve with miles of walking trials, a quarry, and a small museum. Grab your turtleneck and take Tharp's Chase Trail around Meade's quarry for several stunning East Tennessee views.
This museum blew me away the first time we visited. It's got definite wow factor and the curators have done their research. Also, it's free on Sundays! Otherwise, it's just $5.
Several decades ago Sharp's Ridge used to be a nefarious lookout. These days, it's just that, a lookout with gorgeous views of Knoxville! Will and I walk up here sometimes when we need to get out of the house.
If you're staying downtown, make sure you take a spin around Market Square. This adorable, pedestrian friendly area is full of sweet treats, shops, a Saturday morning farmer's market, restaurants, buskers, and lots of cute dogs.
Rami's is our favorite breakfast place. We like to walk down there on Saturdays when we don't feel like cooking for ourselves. The staff are always friendly and the omelettes are delicious.
Once an old gas station and service center is now a full-service food park! This spot is a hopping family friendly, neighborhood hangout. We love to grab a quick snack or meet friends here for an afternoon in the sun (or around a fire pit!).
Our most frequented brewery. We recommend any of the milkshake style ales. AND the Elstzer, hard sparkling water.
Knoxville's only adult day care and Karaoke dive bar. You've probably seen photos over the years, now go experience it for yourself!
Seriously, the BEST ice cream in town. Just go. Located downtown.
We do this hike several times a year. It's proximity and easy access cannot be beat. It's a 3.9 mile loop trail with gorgeous views at the top. A bit steep and rocky in some places.
