There is no better way to enjoy the breathtaking coastal views of New England than to take the scenic Ocean Drive along Newport's southern coast. Ranked as one of the most popular drives in the country, this ten-mile drive (or bike ride) is full of recreational treasures, iconic mansions, and ideal spots to pull over for picnics, fishing, kite flying, or just to admire the sunset. Points of interest include Fort Adams State Park, New York Yacht Club, Hammersmith Farm, Gooseberry Beach, and Brenton Point State Park.
With over 800,000 visitors a year, the legendary Newport mansions are one of Rhode Island's top attractions. The Preservation Society of Newport County operates several different homes. Of these, the most popular mansions are The Breakers, Marble House, The Elms, and Rosecliff.
The legendary Newport Cliff Walk is a 3.5-mile public access walkway that borders the shore line and combines the natural beauty of Newport with the architectural history from the gilded age. The trail runs behind many of Newport's famous gilded mansions, such as Astor's Beechwood, Rosecliff, Marble House, The Breakers, Ochre Court, and Rough Point, where a bridge is located over an open chasm. Most of the cliff walk is paved and offers beautiful vistas, tunnels, and long winding pathways.
Located on a forty-acre peninsula, at the west end of Newport's famous Ocean Drive, Castle Hill Inn offers guests the romance, privacy and extraordinary beauty of a secluded oceanfront resort. The Mansion's chefs artfully craft fresh local fish, regional meats, and produce into a distinctly native, seasonal menu, served in four dining rooms within the Inn. On The Lawn, the epitome of classic New England al fresco dining, think small plates and summer cocktails delivered right to your Adirondack chair. From creative cocktails to appetizers to desserts, imaginative presentation and exceptional taste characterize Castle Hill Inn's fine Dining Experiences.
There is really no difficulty in reaching this site as the entire “trail system” is very short. However, this is a wonderful geological feature that most people are not even aware of. It is well worth a visit if you are just in the area or adding it as a supplement to a nearby hike. The chasm is a glacial cleft about 10 feet wide and about 50 feet deep that is continuously being filled with seawater. From the parking area follow the main path a few hundred feet to a wooden bridge. At the bridge you can view the chasm. There are other paths on the site. If you choose to venture on these paths use extreme caution near the edges. This is not a site that you would want to do any falling at. From the edges of the cliffs you also have sweeping views of Second Beach and Sachuest Point.

Come sail Newport, Rhode Island and Narragansett Bay. Enjoy daily scheduled public sailing cruises, sunset sails and private sailing charters aboard three beautiful vessels. You'll see stately seaside estates, world famous yachts and America's Cup racers all against the stunning backdrop of a historic colonial town and picturesque, rocky shoreline.
Ranked as the #1 public access course in New England, this 18-hole links-style course sports sloping fairways, marshes, and strategically placed bunkers. The dramatic setting features views of the Atlantic Ocean and Sakonnet Passage, while challenging golfers with steady winds coming off the Narragansett Bay. Newport National is reminiscent of courses in Ireland and the legendary Scottish links and Golfweek Magazine placed the course in the “Top Twenty New Courses in America”.
Public tours are held daily at 11am and 2pm. The International Tennis Hall of Fame preserves and promotes the history of tennis and celebrates its champions, thereby serving as a vital partner in the growth of tennis globally. With over 1,900 artifacts of tennis history displayed throughout the redesigned exhibit galleries, the museum delivers an entirely new, engaging visitor experience. After touring the museum, explore the 7-acres that make up the historic grounds of the Newport Casino, from our newly built indoor courts to the manicured grass courts of the Bill Talbert Stadium.
