Okay, it's a bit out of the way. But what's a 45-minute drive in such a beautiful area? It's a classic New England town. It has the Camden Hills State Park for a pleasant hike with a great view. Plus, if you want to go for a swim/dunk there's Barrett's Cove, which is located on Lake Megunticook with wonderful cliff views.
If it happens to be a sunny day, this is a charming town to explore and spend an afternoon.
This place, all summer long, has a line of at least 20 people waiting for a lobster roll. They are family-owned and have been voted the best lobster roll in Maine (if not New England). (Because I have no patience, I've never had their famous lobster roll. I just walked across the street to the competing lobster roll place, which was pretty tasty.)
It was tradition to pull an all-nighter at least once while at Bowdoin and then walk down the street to Frosty's Donuts right when they opened up (4 AM!).
A favorite place of ours while in college (I recommend the butter chicken, spice level 5).
For American cuisine and a beer
Sometimes overcrowded. But I'm guessing in early May, it won't be.
If you need a place to shop, look no further than Freeport. It's the land of outlet stores galore. Fun fact: both of our families spent time here and, of course, we stopped by the Ben and Jerry's cart for a treat. Maybe we crossed paths before Bowdoin!
Oysters, chowder, and lobster rolls. I hear their gluten-free lobster roll is unbelievably good.
An independent craft brewery in Portland, Maine. One of Will's favorite beers (he also loves "Lunch" by Maine Beer Co).
Potato flour donuts. Very different. Tasty. Gluten Free.
It's a popular place to go in Portland. Went here once and lusted after someone's fries.
All vegetarian. We had a great date night here one snowy, February evening.
