With a history harkening back over 100 years, we have, in this former military installation, renovated 10 historic buildings that highlight the beauty, splendor, and opulence of the area. It is destined to be the crown jewel of the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast.

We invite you to enjoy all that makes our Museum unique: the artists, the architecture, the history, and the landscape. The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art celebrates the innovative, independent and creative spirit of our namesake Mississippi master potter George Ohr (1857-1918). In a fitting tribute to Ohr, artist and architect Frank Gehry designed an award-winning campus of bold, intriguing, self-sufficient structures. The four new buildings and the reconstructed home of Pleasant Reed offer visitors separate but not isolated experiences – together creating a single unified vision connected by the expansive brick plaza and the majestic Live Oaks. For our guests of all ages and interests, let the landscape be relaxing and the art inspiring, invigorating, and challenging.

INFINITY’s CaFe and Odyssey Gift Shop serve both interstate travelers and Stennis Space Center employees. In the few short years it’s been open, INFINITY has seen an annual average of about 60,000 visitors…and the number is steadily growing.

With the only deep-water harbor between Mobile Bay and the Mississippi River, Ship Island was used by early explorers as a base for further explorations along the Gulf Coast. The fact that large vessels could find anchorage there led to its name – Isle des Vasseaux or Ship Island. Even with its fine harbor, it was still several years after the United States gained control of the region that a lighthouse was finally proposed for the island. Part of Jefferson Davis’ platform during his successful campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1844 was the establishment of lighthouses and fortifications along Mississippi’s coastline. In 1847, Davis was appointed to the U.S. Senate, and the following year $12,000 was allocated for a lighthouse at Ship Island.

A Jack Nicklaus Signature Design, Grand Bear Golf Club opened in 1999 to widespread fanfare and near universal acclaim. Built six miles into the DeSoto National Forrest, the course offers a seemingly private golf experience as no two holes parallel another, and homes, roads, or other distractions are absent while on property. In its place, the golfer is alone to enjoy the pristine natural environment, where the manicured course conditions meet the towering pines and surrounding cypress wetlands, facing the challenge of the trademark Nicklaus design, while being treated to superior customer service from bag drop at arrival to the warm farewell.
Beauvoir was the last home of Jefferson Davis and it was the site of his retirement. The house was built by James Brown, a wealthy plantation owner from Madison County, Mississippi. The house was started in late 1848 and was completed in 1852. The house was built as a summer home for his wife and his (eventually 13) children. It was then called Orange Grove, due to the Satsuma Oranges being grown on the property. Mr. Brown died in 1866 and his widow continued to own the property until 1873 when she was forced to sell the property at public auction to pay and satisfy the taxes due on her husband's estate. Frank Johnson, a land speculator purchased the house for taxes and then sold the house and property three months later.
