Will's Version
As Wes was leaving the country in Spring, I knew I had to attend his NYE 2019 party. At the party, there were 2 main categories of people: Wes’ friends from Gurnee & his friends from LU. There were 2 exceptions: Olivia & her BFF Kalie…friends of a friend of a friend, they ended up at the party last min. I knew Olivia was a cutie but with so many singles looking to mingle that night, I figured they'd be swarmed by people competing for their attention. As such, I assumed I’d spend the night catching up with friends. But then my friend comes up to me & asks, "Will, are you seeing anyone? I think Olivia thinks you're cute!". With this bit of good news, I walked over to Olivia in hopes of cracking on. We talk the whole night! Though she lived in NY, I asked her for her number...she told me to follow her on Instagram instead...this hurt. But did not deter me. We talk over Insta for a while & there seems to be a spark. We plan a meet-up for March of ‘20...but then COVID. With lockdown in full swing & 1,000 miles between us, a reunion seemed impossible & communication died off. Oct. 2020 - I've gotten pretty good at baking bread & I'm eager to show off my newfound skills. I decide it would be a good idea to send Olivia a pic of my most recent loaf. Against all odds, randomly sending a pic of fresh bread to a girl I liked turned out to be a good idea. Texting led to Zoom dates, which led to a trip to ROC, then a trip to Chicago, then a condo, an engagement & a wedding. Good stuff.
Olivia's Version
Will and I are lucky to have a genuine found-in-the-wild story. It all began at a NYE party going into 2020. I was living in Rochester but came to Chicago to visit my best friend Kalie, who brought me to a party with her grad school friend, a Lawrence alumna. After mingling for a while I remember looking over at Will and thinking, “I really want to talk more to him…” We eventually separated ourselves from the group and talked 1:1 for pretty much the rest of the night. It was one of those conversations that felt like an intimate first date but happened to be in the middle of a crowded bar. I left soon after midnight, leaving Will with my Instagram and hoping we would reconnect. A few weeks later, I got a DM with a photo of sourdough and a cheeky message. Just like that, Will became “Bread Boy.” After the rise of a global pandemic and a few months of casual conversation, I proposed that we have a FaceTime date. With wine & snacks in hand, we chatted for a couple of hours and Will was just how I remembered him- adorable, funny & charming. We continued our chats for a few weeks before Will boldly suggested he drive to Roc for a visit. Things went almost *too* well, and we scheduled our next visit for NYE in Cleveland. While there, we made things *official* and talked about our futures together. Three weeks later we said “I Love You," and the rest is history! Will is still the cute, caring, charismatic guy I met almost 3 years ago and I’m so happy to call him my partner.
