Nantucket, MA

Olivia & Will

Getting There

30 miles out to sea! To get to the island, you can either fly or take the ferry. We recommend booking your travel plans early, as the weekend is a peak time on-island. To note, many hotels don't open reservations for the 2020 season until January 1st, so if looking online and some places say sold out, try calling the hotel directly. And please utilize Swain's Travel Consultant's to help streamline booking any reservations on island!

Flight

BY AIR

Flying is the quickest and easiest way to reach the island. Nantucket’s location makes it vulnerable to unexpected changes in weather patterns. Flights are most likely to be impacted by weather (and often do). Flights on major carriers depart from Boston and New York (JFK). Cape Air serves Nantucket via hourly Cessna shuttle flights from Boston. Direct Flights to Nantucket: From BOS via Cape Air and JetBlue From JFK via JetBlue Regional flights are also available via Cape Air from Westchester, Providence, New Bedford, and Boston. The airport code is ACK.

Travel Note

By Sea

There are several options for getting to Nantucket by ferry. From Cape Cod: Both the Hy-line and Steamship Authority ferries depart regularly from Hyannis. There are fast ferry (1 hr cruise) options and slow ferry (2 hrs, 15 min) options for both companies. Hyannis is a 90-min drive from Boston (or 2 hrs depending on traffic) and 4-5 hrs from NY (again, depending on traffic) . From NYC: Take the Seastreak Ferry directly from Manhattan! A great option on a calm sunny day, but can get a little bumpy when it's windy. Approximately 6 hrs+. Advance reservations are necessary. From New Bedford: This Seastreak Ferry is also a great option to avoid Cape traffic. The ferry operates 1pm and 6pm departures Fri-Sun and is approximately a 2 hr trip to Nantucket. New Bedford, MA is a 3-4 hr drive from NY and 1 hr from Boston.

Rental Car

By Car

There are bus lines, Ubers, and private car options for travel from Boston/Logan to Hyannis. We suggest Peter Pan for bus lines and Kon Limo for private car services.

House Or Rental

AIRBNB

There are many wonderful rental options of all sizes and price-points. Bear in mind that many require minimum stays - we recommend airbnb or vrbo. The island is small so any location is no more than a 20-min drive away. Planning considerations: The party will be right on the edge of town (Brant Point). Most desirable beaches are on the south shore which is about a 15 minute drive outside of the center of town.
