It all began in January 2018 at Molloy University. Will was studying education, and Mariela was an accounting major. They first crossed paths at Molloy’s public square, where Mariela noticed Will and couldn’t help but steal a glance at him. A few days later, she followed him on Instagram—after a little inquiring on the lacrosse roster to find his name! Their first date was at Burgerology. Early dates were filled with laughter and bonding over The Office, Marvel movies, and Star Wars. A fond memory that comes to mind was the first time Will went to Mariela’s house. After confusing Mariela’s mother as her older sister, he got to meet their dog, the infamous Jesse. Jesse (who is not the most social of dogs) ended up taking a liking to Will. Will and Jesse have been close friends ever since. Over the years, their love grew through shared experiences and adventures, from exploring Spain to soaking up the sun in California. Countless double dates, visits to The Met and pizza nights are staples for them. Mariela doesn’t exactly love history, but she’s picked up an impressive amount of knowledge just from listening to Will. Will likes to boast that Mariela knows more about Senecan philosophy and Greco-Roman studies than most history majors. 2023 was a year of milestones for the couple. They moved into their first home together in Auburndale and got engaged soon after. They celebrated their engagement with a trip to Spain, enjoying a perfect balance of beaches, sangria, and Roman ruins. Given their love for day parties and brunches with friends, Will and Mariela chose a daytime wedding to reflect the joy and warmth that has always defined their relationship. They can’t wait to celebrate their love story with all of you!
