How We Met

August 19, 2015

I very clearly remember the first time I met Will. It was my very first college class: 8am Calculus with Dr. Poliakova in Withrow Hall. My academic advisor had convinced me to take this class (which was meaningless to my major or degree completion) in order to receive extra credits as a freshman. I still very clearly remember Will walking into my class, I remember where I was sitting and what he was wearing. It sounds cliché but ask any of our friends and they'll tell you it's true: the first time I saw Will I knew there was something different about him and I wanted to get to know what that something was. - Maggie On the very first day of class, I walked in fashionably late of course…and that is when I first saw Maggie. She immediately had my attention. I thought she was absolutely stunning and so when doing the routine introduction, I remember intensely listening to Maggie when it was her turn. – Will So, when our teammates heard that there was a little spark there, they decided to go into action. They tricked me into a study date that I was not happy about, as I had no idea he was coming. I thought I was just studying with friends. But we studied Calculus that night and there was no denying that there was something special between us. - Maggie From there on, we hung out and studied for months until she finally agreed to be more than just my best friend on January 23, 2016. She had a major knee surgery shortly after, and I gladly assumed the role of her own personal nurse. Since then, we have danced in parking lots, walked the steps of Capitol Hill, kayaked one of the Great Lakes, met many famous country singers, visited the Battlefields of Gettysburg, and hiked the tallest peak East of the Mississippi. – Will We cheered each other on to the end of our soccer careers, graduated from the college that gave us so much, and saw God move in our relationship every step of the way. I know it was not an accident I ended up in that 8am Calculus class. - Maggie

What I Love Most About Will

There are so many things I love about Will, I don't know where to begin. Will shows the perfect example of a 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 love. Will is patient, Will is kind. He does not envy, he does not boast, he is not proud. Will does not dishonor others, he is not self-seeking, and he is not easily angered. Will keeps no record of wrongs. He does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Will always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. This is the kind of man he is and this is the kind of love he has given me. The simple moments with him are the best, whether it's the way he turns every hug into a slow dance or how he steals kisses from me when the traffic light turns red. The way he chases me around a room, dodging the furniture in a game of tag, or the way that he wraps his arms around me when the world overwhelms me. The way he brings consistency and steadiness to my hectic life. The way he has become my home. Will has this incredible desire to constantly grow through reading and learning. We love cooking together and trying to make new things. We both enjoy hiking and other adventures. Will is the one who helped me clean my stitches every day after knee surgery and walked across campus to carry my books to my classes because I was on crutches. He even drove 4 hours to Charleston and back just to pick me up after I got severe sunburn. Will would wake up extra early every morning to call me to make sure I didn't oversleep for team weights. He leads me to Christ daily by his words and his actions. I love who I am when I'm with Will. Will, I admire the way that you love deeply, grow continuously, lead wisely, serve selflessly, and honor God faithfully. You impact everyone you meet with your genuine kindness and gentle spirit. I know that you’re going to be an amazing husband and an incredible father someday. You are the man I've been praying for all my life. I love you so much and I am so proud of the man you are. - Maggie Mae

What I Love Most About Maggie

Describing what I love most about Maggie is hard, because she is everything. She lights up a room the moment she walks in and has an amazing smile, which was one of the first things that caught my eye the first time I saw her. Anybody can see that she is absolutely beautiful, but her heart is just as beautiful. I admire how kind, selfless and compassionate she is. She won’t hesitate to drop everything to help someone, no matter how much work is on her own plate or how busy she is at the time. Maggie doesn’t let anybody go unnoticed or feel overlooked. She is friends with anybody and everybody. Everybody knows Maggie Mae. She lives boldly and loves others well. Maggie is remarkable, because she does so much, yet somehow pulls it all off and makes it look effortless. She's truly one-of-a-kind and doesn’t try to change to 'fit in' with the crowd. I love the way she sings while doing literally anything, she has the most amazing voice. Or the way she looks at me like I’m the only person in the room, even though we may not be. What I love about her on a deeper level is how passionate she is and how much she truly loves Jesus. You can clearly see it in everything she does. She’s been through a lot of hard times throughout her life, yet she only allowed those times to strengthen her faith and that has not only impacted me, but many others as well. She inspired me to rekindle and rededicate my relationship with Jesus, which is what really opened my heart to be able to love her on a deeper level like Christ designed. She encourages me, inspires me, supports me and believes in me. Life with her is truly an adventure, and we always have a good time. George Strait once said, “Life’s not the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away.” And every single one of those moments, Maggie has been a part of. Maggie Mae, you mean everything to me and are my entire world. I cannot wait for a lifetime by your side. I love you always and forever. -Will
