How We Met

Our story begins during our freshman year of college at *The* Ohio State University. We met on a night out during the summer, just before school started, when we danced together all night long. As fate would have it, we soon discovered that we were living in the same dorm building, had the same major, shared the same friends, and even took many of the same classes. Will would often come down to Lauren's floor to hang out with everyone and would frequently interrupt Lauren's study time by chatting non-stop. Of course, Lauren, being kind and polite, never asked Will to leave, even if she had a lot of work to do. This quickly became one of our favorite times of the day—catching up with each other, laughing, and enjoying one another’s company, a tradition that continued for months. By the end of freshman year, we had officially become a couple! Will stayed on campus over the summer for soccer workouts and summer school, and since Lauren was a local, he made sure to see her at least seven days a week. One of our favorite activities was taking long walks around campus, often ending at The Union to treat ourselves to acai bowls. Sadly, this frequent hangout time would soon be cut short. Will decided to transfer schools to continue playing soccer at the University of Louisville. Both he and Lauren—mostly Will—became quite familiar with I-71, the three-hour commute between the two schools. The distance was tough, and the time apart was even tougher, but we made it work! This long-distance relationship continued into graduate school, with Lauren still attending Ohio State for Occupational Therapy and Will moving back home to attend IU for Physical Therapy. Fast forward to 2024, and we are both graduating with our doctorates and preparing for our licensure exams. We had always wanted to plan a trip to celebrate this milestone, and we chose Sanibel Island in Florida as the perfect getaway. Little did Lauren know, this trip would mark the start of our forever. After capturing the "perfect" video of the slowly setting sun and sipping some wine, Will pulled Lauren aside, got down on one knee, and asked for the honor of a lifetime. Lauren said yes, and as she was soaking it all in, Will turned her around for another surprise—her family emerged from behind the bushes, walking towards them. We celebrated at the condo afterward with snacks and drinks and continued the celebration at our favorite restaurant on the island, Doc Ford’s. It was a magical moment in a place that holds a special place in our hearts—one we will never forget!
