How We Met

6/03/15 - 6/20/15

We met how everyone does now-a-days... online! I "winked" at him and he messaged me. From there we were texting back and forth until we finally got drinks a week later at a place called Will's Northwoods Inn. I wasn't sure if it was weird or cool that he picked for us to go to a bar with his name. We spent hours chatting, eating, and had a few (ok quite a few) drinks. And the rest was history.

Our Engagement

11/9/2019

I had always loved traveling to Big Sur, California and had stayed in a cabin by myself following a work trip early on when Hannah and I were first dating. I decided that should we ever get engaged, this should be the spot. In fact, I even scouted a particular cliff overlooking Garapata Beach that would be perfect. Fast forward 3 years, and we flew out to California for long weekend escape. We rented a cabin in the same canyon he had stayed before(but a much nicer one) and planned on hiking around for the weekend. I hoped to propose the first day we arrived, and after checking in to the cabin following an afternoon of stress eating clam chowder and interfacing with sea otters I made the move. iI rushed down the canyon(a 30 minute winding road through giant moss covered redwoods) to catch the "sunset" which I conveyed was very important. By the time we reached the ocean, the sun had completely set and was quite dark. Thus, we turned around and went another 30 minutes up the canyon to our isolated cabin. Unable to shake the nerves I didn't sleep that night, but woke up early and sat amid my thoughts on a cool morning, and strong coffee. Making Hannah breakfast I was sweating almost as much as the skillet bacon. We got an early start and hit Highway 1 by 9am. I pulled over spontaneously at the very spot I had planned years ago. The cliff was now closed due to erosion so we went down to the beach. I pretended to set my GoPro to time a photograph of us both(but it was actually running video). I nervously, and bizarrely executed 3 fake timed photographs while I worked up the nerve. Eventually I told Hannah how much I care about her and got down on one knee. She said yes! Afterwards we giddily hiked the trails nearby Point Lobos State Park and savored the moment. With no cell phone service, we let our families know about 5 hours later once were settled with champagne in the California sun.

For all the days along the way
