In April 2021, Will surprised Ariella on her annual Labin family vacation held in Sedona this year. While Ariella thought Will was headed to Olympic National Park for a camping trip, he was secretly coordinating with both sides of the family to surprise Ariella and pop the question! Will and his family boarded the early flight to Phoenix to arrive well before the Labins made it to their Airbnb. In order to give Will enough time to set up for the big proposal, the Labin clan coerced Ariella out of the house by enticing her with a fictional event full of food trucks, art, and live music…it was the perfect cover. And despite travelling for 7 hours and feeling ill from her COVID booster shot, Ariella couldn’t resist the prospect of food trucks, wine, & live music. As the Labins piled into the rental car to drive around aimlessly, Ariella’s brothers texted Will, "the eagle has left the nest” – cue, the Chalfants moved in. After frantically transforming the AirBnB into a romantic fire-hazard overflowing with candles, roses, cheese, and wine, Will, jittery & nervous, gave Ariella’s brothers the signal to make their way back to the Airbnb. The trap was set and the Labin’s well-practiced lines were put to the test: Eddy: "Oops, I forgot my wallet. We need to turn around and head back. Sorry guys!" Claudia: [forgetting the plan in lieu of a fictional promise of wine and live music] "What about the music! You don’t need your wallet, keep going." Ariella: “…damn it, Eddy.” Just another typical road trip with the Labins. As they pulled back into the driveway of the AirBnB, they somehow convinced Ariella to fetch Eddy’s wallet while they waited in the car. "It's on the kitchen counter, you can’t miss it!" Eddy said. Ariella entered the Airbnb on a mission to find her brother’s wallet as quickly as possible. She almost walked past Will, standing there in a full suit and roses in hand. When they finally locked eyes, Will waited until Ariella realized he wasn't there to murder her and then slowly dropped the knee. Both families came out of hiding to kick off the celebration. The remainder of the week was a blur of emotions set to the stunning backdrop of the red-rock canyon walls, soaking in the moment in with their families.
