Meeting Lavon was very interesting! *laughter* Lavon and I officially met at a Church event on November 12th, 2019...but I had seen him a lot at church and church events, so it was no surprise to see him at another one. I saw him wave in my direction a few times, but I never returned them, because I always thought he was waving at someone else. He kept turning back during a service and I thought he kept looking at me. I had intended to walk up to him and ask what he was looking at me for, buuuuuuut a girl walked up and hugged him and said she would see him later at the house. So, I changed my mind. I figured he was dating her and he was probably trying to get her attention, not mine. Well at the next event that I saw him, he walked up to me promptly with all this courage and boldly stated, "Lavon, my name is hi!" I DIED laughing! I think I even spit my drink a little... *laughter* After my ribs stopped hurting from my laughter, I put my hand up and said "No." I turned to walk away, but this guy just somehow beat me in my 180 turn and said "Wait, no what?" I was like, you have got to be kidding me... I said "I know you have a girlfriend or whatever, so don't even try to get me mixed up in that. I am a good person and I REFUSE to be part of your stupid "love" game!" To which he replied, "I don't have a girlfriend. I actually don't really care for one right now, but hey, way to make this the weirdest introduction ever." I explained to him that I saw him with that girl (the one y'all just read about about). Yeah, not my best moment because that girl was his sister and they were planning a lunch at their mom's house.. *laughter* However, I did end up talking to him and well we kinda became best friends!
Clearly you now know that meeting Kaycee was very unique and kinda funny, but falling in love with her was like getting blind-sided. I had no intention of dating anyone for a long time. The Lord told me that my Bride was coming and that he was preparing my heart for the day that I would meet her. I thought he meant it would happen in a few years, but I was off by, exactly, a few years. *laughter* I knew that Kaycee had this way of being there for people and when I went to the hospital, that girl never left my side. I saw her loyalty in our friendship and her courage in how she fought for answers with doctors who over-looked me; until she took me to a better hospital - where I was quickly treated and rushed into an emergency surgery. When I woke up, she was still there - making sure that I was taken care of. This was the first time that the Lord lifted my "goggles" so I could see HER...and I was stunned. I talked to God every day about what I had seen. He told me to pursue her more than I had chased anything in my life. So I did, I asked him daily for months "Is today the day?" until he finally gave me permission to ask her on a date. Then it came...I was so EXCITED! I was pumped and ready to go! I had written out this way to ask her on a coffee date and when I finally asked her, she said no. She said no... I went back to God and asked him what happened, and he told me again, to pursue her. So I did....21 more times. Every time I asked her, she said no. I felt more defeated every single time. THEN... I asked the Lord one more time if today was the day, and He said YES! I prepared for this moment for a long time. I asked her out (my 22nd time asking) on a picnic date at her favorite park and guys...when I tell you I had a knot in my stomach, it was my stomach actually in a knot. When she said yes, it was like the sky turned a whole new color of blue! She had all these rules I had to follow, but man guys - she said yes and that's all I cared about.
KAYCEE For me it was kinda fun, because I know I can be myself around him and not worry about, like, what he would think of me. (He already knows my quirks and perks!) He was and still is the first person I tell everything to, so I was nervous about if I could still do that, but the Lord did a lot of work in my heart and in my spirit through Lavon's pursuit and love for me. I'm able to trust him more than I trust almost anyone, so our foundation is really solid because of that. LAVON: Can I be real for a second? Okay, it has been AMAZING! I think the only thing that has really changed is that now I have to buy her food by obligation as her man. *Laughter* In all seriousness, I think the transition had its own bumps in the road, but with the Lord you have the right amount of tension in your suspension to make the road smoother. in order to get where we are with our relationship, there were some things that I had to change within myself and I know she had to work really hard too. I constantly want to be the man she deserves, not just the friend she deserves. Having her as a best friend was awesome, but as a partner and my future Bride...this girl will drive me crazy, but I don't want anyone pressing on the gas pedal except her.
KAYCEE: Lavon said "I love you" first. *laughter* The first time I told him "I love you", was when we were sitting in my room and I had just finished writing in my journal. He had come over to watch a movie with me and he told me about how sometimes when he journals he has to categorize things before he can color-code them...and I just laughed and said "Oh my gosh, I love you. Wait, yeah I do love you." It was very sweet moment and instead of watching a movie, we went to the park and enjoyed the sunset with Nike & Kratos. It was perfect! LAVON: Yep. I definitely said "I love you" first. *Laughter* We were hanging out at my apartment and watching Gilmore Girls (Kaycee's Choice). I had planned to do it better and in the perfect place, but that didn't happen. I kind of blurted the words out by accident when she saw me looking at her and she asked, "Why are you looking at me all funny?" and I immediately, without thinking....said "cause I love you." She kinda freaked out a little bit and and she said "Do you mean like you love me as a friend?" and I said well yeah, and she asked, "so only as a friend?!" and I said, "no." and then she asked, "more than a friend?" and I said "Yeah." The room was silent except for Kaycee sobbing her eyes out; until she ran for the door and told me not to follow her to her car, but I did anyway cause I wanted to make sure she was okay. She cried in her car and then waved goodbye and I did not hear back from her for about 3 days...when she asked if I wanted to go see a movie with her. *Laughter*
Lavon Robert Erwin & Kaycee Michelle Morphew were married in holy matrimony in front of close friends and loved ones on July 4th, 2021. It was a patriotic ceremony that was filled with Red, White, & Blue colors along with fireworks, fountains, and sparklers. "It was a day filled with love, laughter, and new beginnings! We could not have asked for a better day to become Husband & Wife! We get to have fireworks and celebrate our Anniversaries on our favorite Holiday of the year, what could be better?!" - The Erwins
