Luke and Sam’s story began in black and white photography class in high school, and at the time, they were just classmates. Sam didn’t think much of the younger boy, and Luke didn’t think an older girl like Sam would ever be interested in him. But after Luke dropped the class, they found themselves looking for each other in the halls between class periods, wishing to see each other and share a smile. They’d often see each other at basketball games, Luke on the court playing and Sam on the sidelines cheering, chatting after games until it became clear there was something special between them. Little by little, their small moments together grew into something special. The next semester, fate stepped in again. They ended up in the same study hall and reconnected there. It started with small talk and shared laughs, and even after the semester ended, they stayed in touch. When Luke later added Sam on Snapchat, what started as a friendship slowly grew into love. Years later, Luke proposed during a family camping trip to Amish Country in Berlin, Ohio. They were staying at a small, charming campground with a little pasture full of animals. The cows had just had a baby, and Sam was very excited, insisting they go see the tiny calf. As they wandered near the pasture, the chickens followed along the fence, and the goats slowly approached. While Sam was completely distracted by a baby cow and a few friendly goats (naturally), she didn’t notice Luke quietly slipping behind her. Then, just as a goat nudged her hand, she turned, and there he was, down on one knee. Surrounded by animals, Luke asked Sam to spend the rest of her life with him. Overwhelmed with joy, she said yes!
