How we Met

A Night Out in Harlem, March 2017

Originally from far away—but very similar—rural towns in the South, Ambra and Wilburt moved to New York City to start vibrant careers in marketing & fashion. During a night out with friends, they briefly met at Ginny’s Social Club. Before Ambra had to run, she said, “take my number.” While Wilburt typically would have left seeing each other up to chance, he smiled and said okay. Taking this exchange as a sign, he followed up the next day to ask Ambra on an official date. As people who came into themselves outside their small hometowns, Ambra and Wilburt fell in love over their humble beginnings, carving their own paths and creating an unimaginable life together.

The Proposal

Brooklyn Museum, November 2021

November 7, 2021, started as a normal Sunday. Ambra and Wilburt went to First Corinthian Baptist Church, followed by brunch at La Diagonal in Harlem—their first date spot. From there, they headed to the Brooklyn Museum for a private tour of the “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams'' exhibit with some of Wilburt’s business school classmates—which he secretly planned. Towards the end, he asked Ambra to follow him to his “favorite location” in the museum, the Luce Visible Storage & Study Center. She reluctantly followed. Wilburt then suggested that Ambra look into a specific drawer, where she found a card with her name inscribed. As she read the message, Wilburt got on one knee to propose. The surprise continued as they were celebrated by some of their closest NY friends in the museum restaurant.
